Across from Dumulmeori in Yangpyeong, Soso Cafe is nestled where the Bukhangang River flows gently. This place, also known as 'Water and Trees' and 'Garden of Healing,' is a large bakery cafe that truly lives up to its name. The drive itself, coming along the Bukhangang River road past Sincheongpyeong Bridge, is already a spectacular view, so your mind relaxes even before you arrive.
The real star of this place is undoubtedly the view. Sitting directly facing the wide-open Bukhangang River and gazing at the water, you feel the stress of daily life wash away. The occasional sight of a train passing across the river is a unique romance of this place, and the moment the red sky at sunset overlaps with a train makes you want to sit there for a long time. Thanks to the 400-year-old ginkgo tree and the meticulously maintained outdoor garden, it's no exaggeration to say that you can get a perfect photo no matter where you snap a picture.
The space is ample. The building is divided into several sections, including the main building's second floor, an annex, and terraces, and the outdoor seating area is incredibly vast, so even on crowded days, you'll find somewhere to sit. Large trees provide shade, offering good cover from the scorching summer sun, and even when sitting indoors, the panoramic windows facing the river are wide open, so the view is not disappointing. You can also take a walk down the river path, and people spending time with their companion dogs are often seen.
Opinions on the menu are divided. The signature Soso Latte consistently receives praise for being especially delicious when consumed less sweet, and many also rate the rich, savory coffee and breads like fig pain de campagne as exceeding expectations. On the other hand, there are quite a few disappointments, such as coffee being bland or the bakery items and bingsu not meeting expectations. For bingsu, there are comments criticizing the use of frozen mango and reviews expressing disappointment with the 27,000 won price, so it's more comfortable to set expectations for drinks and desserts as accompaniments to the view.
Honestly, the prices are not cheap. However, many people believe that considering the riverside seating and such a view as a "view premium," it's well worth the price, so many express their intention to revisit. One point of feedback was that the flow of movement was inconvenient because there's no separate return counter indoors, requiring customers to go outside to return items. The service is generally good, with notable praise for the generous male owner, the kind female owner, and the staff.
It's advisable to consider crowded times. Even though the parking lot is quite spacious, it often fills up on weekends, holidays, and during peak season, so if you aim for early mornings or weekday mornings, you can leisurely enjoy gazing at the water. It's a place remembered more for its ambiance than its taste; if you're passing through Yangpyeong, it's a cafe with a great ambiance worth stopping by to enjoy the river breeze with a cup of coffee.
